If you are 36, married, a Mom, drive a mini-van and live in the suburbs, chances are you have gone to a fellow Mom’s house for a in-home jewelry party. There are several popular lines out there; Stella & Dot, Silpada or Chloe + Isabel. Last month, I enjoyed a few hours with my lady friends sipping wine and trying on necklaces, earrings and bracelets. I actually bought two items and wear the leather snap bracelet often. Here’s the kicker. Last week, while scrolling through my Facebook newsfeed, an image caught my eye. It was my leather snap bracelet, featured on the Chloe + Isabel page! The “sponsored post” prompted me to ‘like’ the page, which I did and I thought to myself, how did they find me!?!
I’m not annoyed by suggested posts or ads on Facebook, although I know several of my friends find them frustrating. The internet is watching you, it sees which websites you visit, knows how much time you spend on a particular site and pushes it back in front of you via social media. I think it’s brilliant and smart advertising. It’s targeted, it has a purpose and guess what? It works! Not only did I like the Chloe + Isabel Facebook page, but I spent a good five minutes looking through the latest photos of their new Fall jewelry and accessories line. I might even contact my neighbor and order another bracelet that I saw on their page. Bam!
Compared to other jewelry pages that I actively searched out and “liked”, there isn’t much difference. Content is content. They all show the latest trends, lots of beautiful photos of models wearing their jewelry and prompt engagement on their pages. Chloe + Isabel clearly have a social campaign, post regularly and host contests for their fans, just like the other companies. They have active Twitter, Pinterest and Instagram accounts too. One big difference I noticed with the other jewelry companies I already “liked” or “followed” is their number of fans, it is significantly higher than Chloe + Isabel. This is probably the reason they are spending some of their budget on promoted posts. Just a thought, but more importantly, I can’t wait to get my new bracelet.
